The Kyosho Optima Mid is a triumphant return of a true RC legend. This reimagined icon captures the spirit of the original Optima Mid, a buggy that made a significant impact on the RC racing scene in 1987, while incorporating modern technology and performance enhancements for today's enthusiasts. The Optima Mid retains its classic design and innovative features, but with upgraded materials and components throughout.
The Optima Mid features a durable and lightweight 6061T6 aluminium alloy main chassis, providing exceptional strength and rigidity. The mid-motor position and undercarriage layout, which became the foundation for modern racing buggies, deliver exceptional handling and balance. The 4WD belt drive system now includes an adjustable belt tensioner, improving driving efficiency and reducing power loss. The moulded resin belt cover offers better protection from dirt and dust compared to the original vacuum-formed part.
The Optima Mid also features a 48-pitch spur gear with a slipper clutch for smooth and reliable power transfer, as well as FRP front and rear shock stays and a countersunk main chassis for improved durability. The body retains the classic Optima Mid design, complete with decals that recreate the original packaging and a masking sheet for easy painting. Whether you're a seasoned racer who remembers the magic of the original Optima Mid or a newcomer eager to experience a classic design with modern performance, the Kyosho Optima Mid is a must-have.

The aluminium oil shocks retain the classic look while featuring an updated dial adjustment for precise chassis height control and refined damping performance.
The basic design follows the 1987 Optima Mid. As the name suggests, the layout allows for the mid-ship motor mount. Driving performance is optimised by centrally locating heavy components on the chassis.
The 6061-T6 aluminium alloy main chassis achieves an excellent balance between rigidity and crash resistance. Incorporating hex screws with countersunk holes for a flat underside of the chassis.
The front and rear shock stays have been updated from the original aluminium to FRP, similar to the Turbo Optima Mid-specs.
Stabiliser end mounting holes have been added to the front suspension arms. The quality of the material has been optimised for increased strength and driving stability.
The belt cover has been updated from the previous vacuum-formed part to a moulded resin part that effectively protects the drive belt from dirt and dust. The new belt cover is easier to assemble and provides more complete protection from dust.

Hands down, Hobbies Direct is one of the best in the business Australia wide! They are fast, professional, well priced and genuinely concerned with customer satisfaction. They resolved an issue I had completely without issue too. I can't recommend this team enough - you are in safe hands dealing with this crew. They rock! As for the product - well, what else is there to say except the Kyosho 1/10 Optima Mid 4WD Electric Off Road RC Buggy Kit 2022 re-release is finally in my hands!!! I'm stoked!

If I could split the score, Hobbies Direct would get a 4 or 4.5 and Kyosho would get 0 stars. Hobbies Direct has the best sales process I've seen in an RC store, and their support is also excellent. Customer communications can be a little haphazard at times, but they get problems sorted to the best of their ability even if they don't always keep you updated. Kyosho ships kits with broken parts that any visual inspection should've caught. They don't bother to supply the distributor with any spare parts for those kits. They then take ~12 weeks before they bother sending a new shipment with parts. With parts support that bad, even if you get a non-broken kit you won't be able to reliably run your Kyosho & put it through normal wear & tear.
