Revell 1/48 P-61 Black Widow Night Fighter Scaled Plastic Model Kit

The Northrop P-61 Black Widow, named after the North American spider, was not just another fighter. It was the first operational U.S. warplane specifically designed to dominate the night skies. This twin-engine, twin-boom aircraft packed a punch with its four 20mm cannons and four .50 calibre machine guns. Developed during World War II, the Black Widow first took flight in 1942 and entered production a year later. Despite not being produced in large numbers, it served effectively in various theatres, including Europe, the Pacific, China, Burma, and India. It replaced earlier night fighters and revolutionised night combat with its advanced radar technology. After the war, the P-61 received the designation F-61 and continued serving for several years. It patrolled the skies as a long-range, all-weather interceptor well into the 1950s before finally being retired from government service in 1954. On a historical note, a P-61 even unofficially achieved the last Allied air victory before the end of World War II. Additionally, the P-61 platform was modified to create the F-15 Reporter, a valuable photo-reconnaissance aircraft.
