Overview

HMS Colombo was launched on December 18th 1918 in Fairfield shipbuilding. From June 1919 to 1926 she had joined the eastern fleet in the far east then reassigned to the United States and the West Indies waters from 1932 to 1935. She returned to the Eastern Fleet.

Then early fall Colombo Royal Navy Home Fleet, she was also involved in the pursuit of the German battlecruiser Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. She then returned to England again refurbished by the line, and between August 1940 and June 1942 continued on and returned to the Eastern Fleet.

Between June 1942 and March 1943 the Colombo along with the sister ship was converted into an air-defence cruiser and continued to participate in war. HMS Colombo survived the war, and on January 22nd 1948 went up for sale in Cashmore Newport shipyard for dismantling on May 13th 1948.
