The Cessna A-37B Dragonfly was designed specifically for counter-insurgency (COIN) operations, seeing extensive action during the Vietnam War. Developed from the T-37 jet trainer, the A-37B was a light attack aircraft noted for its durability and ability to fly low-altitude missions from short, unprepared airstrips. It was powered by twin J85-GE-17A engines and featured a side-by-side cockpit for its two-person crew, protected by a nylon flak curtain. For its role, the Dragonfly was heavily armed, carrying a GAU-2 7.62mm minigun as fixed armament and boasting eight underwing pylons capable of carrying over 5,000 pounds of bombs, rockets, and other stores.
