You need polycarbonate-specific paint (often called "PS" paint by Tamiya, or "lexan paint"). Regular spray paint won't stick properly and will flake off. Always paint the inside of a clear shell, not the outside.
Only if the shell is already painted or is ABS/hard plastic. Clear lexan shells must use polycarbonate paint. Painting the inside protects the finish from scratches during driving.
