FAQs for RC Planes
Look for a high-wing trainer with gyro stabilisation — they're the most forgiving to fly. FMS and E-Flite both make solid beginner models. Make sure it's RTF (ready-to-fly) so you get everything in the box.
Foam RTF trainers start around $100-200. Mid-range sport planes run $250-600. Warbirds, scale models and EDF jets can range from $300 to $1,500+. You'll also need a battery charger if one isn't included.
Recreational flying under 250g doesn't need registration. Over 250g, register with CASA (it's free) and follow the standard rules — fly below 120m, keep line of sight, stay away from airports and people. No licence needed for recreational use.
RTF (Ready-to-Fly) includes everything — plane, transmitter, battery, charger. BNF (Bind-and-Fly) comes without a transmitter, so you use your own. ARF (Almost-Ready-to-Fly) needs assembly plus your own electronics. Beginners should start RTF.
