The USS Yorktown (CV-5) was a pivotal United States Navy aircraft carrier that played a crucial role in the early stages of the Pacific War. Commissioned in 1937, she was at the forefront of the fighting after Pearl Harbor, participating in raids on Japanese-held islands before fighting in the Battle of the Coral Sea. Her heroic last stand came at the Battle of Midway in June 1942.
