The McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom is a long-range, twin-engine, two-seater multi-role fighter designed for all-weather operations. First flown in 1958, the F-4 proved to be an exceptionally successful design, serving with the U.S. military and numerous allied nations for decades. The F-4E variant, produced from 1967, was a long-range fighter version that incorporated an internal 20mm M61A-1 cannon, a feature missing from earlier models. The Phantom saw extensive service in conflicts such as the Vietnam War and throughout the Middle East.
