Academy 1/72 German King Tiger Henschel Turret Plastic Model Kit
The Tiger II, a formidable German heavy tank during World War II, bore the official designation Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B, often simply referred to as Tiger B. Informally, it earned the nickname "Königstiger," translating to Bengal tiger and signifying "King Tiger" in a literal sense. Allied soldiers of the time typically called it the King Tiger or Royal Tiger. The Tiger II succeeded the Tiger I, combining the latter's substantial armour with the sloped armour design featured in the Panther medium tank. This formidable tank boasted an impressive weight of nearly 70 tonnes and was shielded by armour ranging from 100 to 185 mm (3.9 to 7.3 inches) at the front. Its primary armament was the long-barreled 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71 anti-tank cannon. The Tiger II saw deployment in heavy tank battalions of the Army and the Waffen-SS. Its combat debut occurred when the 503rd Heavy Panzer Battalion used it during the Allied invasion of Normandy on July 11, 1944. On the Eastern Front, the 501st Heavy Panzer Battalion became the first unit to be equipped with the Tiger II, with 25 operational units by September 1, 1944.
