The SMK armoured prototype was developed prior to WWII by the Soviet Union. It was named after a Communist Party official who was assassinated in 1934, Sergei Mironovich Kirov. Uncovered by German intelligence as the T-35C, it was (incorrectly) believed the T-35 took part in the Russio-Finnish War. A single prototype was developed and showed inferior performance for its weight and size against the KV class tank. The development of the SMK was ended shortly thereafter. The armoured tank's armament included a 76.2mm short gun in the upper, centrally placed turret, and a 45mm gun in the forward turret.
