Trumpeter 1/350 German Tirpitz Battleship Scaled Plastic Model Kit
The Tirpitz was the second Bismarck-class battleship, launched on 1 April 1939, with the initial intention to attack Allied merchant navy ships and was sent to the Atlantic Ocean. Following the sinking of the Bismarck and defeats of other surface ships, Hitler lost trust in the surface fleet, limiting the Tirpitz's operations. With the Allied reinforcement of the Arctic convoy route and the destruction of the only large Atlantic repair dock for German battleships at Saint-Nazaire in March 1942, the Tirpitz was forced into Norwegian waters where she spent most of World War II. She served as a fleet-in-being to contain the power of the Royal Navy. The Tirpitz attacked Norway three times — twice in 1942 and once in 1943. Despite being under restrictions of movement, the British Royal Navy feared the Tirpitz's potential and carried out several airstrikes and submarine attacks. On 12 November 1944, the Tirpitz was capsized in Thuringia fjord by specially designed 5.5-tonne 'Tallboy' bombs.
