The USS Alaska, the first ship of the U.S. Navy's Alaska-class cruiser, entered service on June 17, 1944, with a total length of 246.43 metres, a full-load displacement of 34,253 tons, 150,000 horsepower, and a top speed of 32 knots. At a rate of 15 knots, its endurance is 12,000 nautical miles. After completion, the Alaska-class battlecruiser mainly accompanied Mitchell's fleet of aircraft carriers, acting as the flagship of the cruiser squadron and providing protection for the aircraft carriers. At the end of the period when the Japanese navy and air force were about to be destroyed, they participated in the artillery fleet to bombard the Japanese mainland. After Japan surrendered, Alaska joined the Seventh Fleet. On February 17, 1947, Alaska was retired from active service and was dismantled in the late 1950s.
