Description

Panther tanks made their debut on the Eastern Front but also saw action in Italy, France, Belgium, and Holland. They played crucial roles in significant battles like the Ardennes offensive, the Battle of the Bulge, and the defence of Germany. The Panther, with its 7.5 cm Kw.K 42 L/70 long-barreled high-velocity anti-tank gun, boasted superior cross-country mobility compared to the Tiger tank.

A key advantage of the Panther was its sloped armour design, which balanced protection and weight. Notably, the 80 mm angled front armour glacis plate offered more protection than the Tiger tank's 100 mm vertical plate. This often-overlooked fact meant that an enemy's standard armour-piercing round had to penetrate 139 mm (5.4 inches) of armour when striking the glacis plate head-on. At a 45-degree angle, it required penetrating 197 mm (7.7 inches) of armour.

The Panther's development stemmed from the challenges faced by German units on the Eastern Front when encountering the formidable T-34 and KV-1 tanks during Operation Barbarossa in 1941. This led to the competition between two designs, VK30.01(D) and VK30.02(M), with the MAN design eventually chosen and expedited into production.

Academy have carefully recreated this piece of military history in 1/35 scale ready for you to build and display.
