The Mikoyan MiG-27, known by its NATO reporting name "Flogger-D", is a formidable ground-attack aircraft developed from the MiG-23 fighter. To optimise it for low-level strike missions, the design was modified with fixed air inlets and a simplified engine nozzle, while the afterburner power was increased. A key feature of the Flogger-D is its sharply-sloped nose, which improved the pilot's downward vision and housed terrain-following radar. The MiG-27 is heavily armed, with a standard six-barrel 23mm rotary cannon in the fuselage and seven external hardpoints for carrying a wide array of ordnance, from conventional bombs to guided missiles.
