The Messerschmitt Me 262 was a true revolution in aviation, becoming the world's first operational jet-powered fighter. Entering service late in the Second World War, its incredible speed gave it a significant advantage over even the most advanced Allied piston-engined fighters. Armed with powerful nose-mounted cannons and sometimes supplemented with R4M air-to-air rockets, it was a deadly bomber interceptor in the skies over Germany.
