Description
The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a carrier-capable light attack aircraft with a delta-wing design, developed for the US Navy and Marine Corps in the early 1950s. The Skyhawk, produced by Douglas Aircraft and McDonnell Douglas, has a single turbojet engine and is relatively light with a maximum weight of 24,500 pounds (11,100 kg). It can reach a top speed of 670 miles per hour (1,080 km/h). The aircraft has five hardpoints that support missiles, bombs, and other munitions, delivering a bomb load similar to a World War II Boeing B-17 bomber. Its Pratt & Whitney J52 engine powers the A-4E variant.
