The Heinkel He 219 Uhu was arguably the most advanced piston-engine night fighter deployed by the Luftwaffe in World War II. It made a spectacular combat debut in June 1943, when a single prototype shot down five RAF Lancaster bombers in one mission. The A-7 was the final production variant, equipped with powerful DB 603G engines for improved high-altitude performance against Allied bombing raids.
