Description
The HMS Calcutta was launched on July 9th 1918 at Vickers shipyard, it was modified to an air defence cruiser in 1939 and deployed to the Mediterranean.
On June 25th 1940 the HMS Calcutta was in Bordeaux Coast and joined the Canadian destroyer HMCS Fraser and HMCS Restigouche to Rescue 4000 Germans who besieged the French refugees. Due to large waves, it resulted in the Calcutta and Fraser colliding. Fraser eventually sank and 45 crew members died and 19 crew perished on the Calcutta. On June 1st 1941 HMS Calcutta was in the Battle of Crete and was partially sunk by a German Ju-88 bomber in the north of the Mediterranean waters of Alexandria, Egypt.Features
