The Mil Mi-17 is an upgraded iteration of the Mi-8M helicopter that was initially introduced in 1975. It is powered by two Klimov TV3-117MT turboshaft engines and is a Russian military helicopter with its roots in Soviet design. Remarkably, production of this helicopter has continued up until 2021, with manufacturing taking place at two facilities located in Kazan and Ulan-Ude.

In Russian military service, it is still referred to as the Mi-8M series, and this versatile helicopter primarily serves as a medium twin-turbine transport aircraft. Additionally, it can be configured as an armed gunship version for combat roles.
