The BTR-70 is a Soviet eight-wheeled amphibious armoured personnel carrier that entered service in the early 1970s. Developed as a successor to the widespread BTR-60, it featured a number of improvements, including thicker armour, better tyres, and more powerful gasoline engines. Armed with a heavy machine gun in a roof-mounted turret, the BTR-70 became a ubiquitous vehicle in the armies of the Warsaw Pact and was widely exported worldwide.
