The BTR-70 is a Soviet eight-wheeled amphibious armoured personnel carrier that entered service in the early 1970s as a successor to the BTR-60. Later production versions of the BTR-70 incorporated several improvements over the initial design to enhance reliability and combat effectiveness. Armed with a heavy machine gun in a roof-mounted turret, the BTR-70 was a ubiquitous vehicle in the armies of the Warsaw Pact and was widely exported.
