The Boeing EA-18G Growler was developed to meet a specific U.S. Navy requirement for a specialised electronic warfare aircraft to replace the ageing Grumman EA-6B Prowler. The Growler is directly derived from the two-seater F/A-18F Super Hornet, retaining its aerodynamic characteristics and high performance, including a top speed of Mach 1.8. The crew consists of a pilot and a Weapon System Officer (WSO). Instead of the standard cannon, the Growler is equipped with sophisticated radar jamming and electronic warfare pods, while retaining the ability to carry AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles for self-defence.
