The light armoured reconnaissance vehicles “ Leichte Panzerspähwagen ” Sd.Kfz . 222 and 223 were widely used by the German army during the Second World War on all operational fronts. The motorisation of the troops and the speed in carrying out reconnaissance and offensive activities constituted one of the " assets " of the German Blitzkrieg. The four-wheel drive light armored cars “ 222 ” and “ 223 ” were designed to respond precisely to this new approach and need. Employed by the reconnaissance battalions of the armored divisions they had, on the whole, good road and off-road performance. SD version. Kfz. 222 was armed with a 20mm L/55 cannon which flanked the more traditional MG13 . SD version. Kfz. 223 was also equipped with improved radio and communications equipment for a more effective link with troops on the battlefield.
