Description

The A-26 Invader, a twin-engine attack aircraft designed by Douglas, demonstrated extraordinary operational longevity. Entering service in World War II in 1944, later variants participated in major conflicts of the 1950s and 1960s, including the Korean, Indochina, and Vietnam wars. The "B" model was the most produced version, distinguished by its heavy armament of 6 to 8 .50 calibre machine guns in the nose. The A-26B's robust design also allowed for the installation of 20 mm or 37 mm cannons, or a 75 mm howitzer. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 “Double Wasp” radial engines, each producing 2,000 horsepower, the Invader could reach a top speed of 570 km/h.
