Description

The Calsonic Skyline GT-R is one of the most iconic cars from the golden era of the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC). Inaugurated in 1993, the JGTC attracted not only highly modified Japanese cars but also European supercars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. Packed into the GT-R look-alike body shell was Nissan's latest racing technology: its 2568cc in-line six-cylinder engine, with twin turbochargers, produced an awesome 450 horsepower, transmitted to the rear wheels via the X-Trac developed sequential 6-speed gearbox. The four-wheel double wishbone suspension system has almost the same construction as Nissan's highly competitive Gr.C machines raced during the 1980s. During the 1996 season, one GT-R competed in the JGTC under the sponsorship of Calsonic, a Japanese manufacturer of car radiator components. Draped in its famous, vibrant overall blue livery, the Calsonic Skyline GT-R fully displayed its outstanding performance throughout the season. This 1/24 scale kit from Tamiya captures the aggressive, track-hugging form of the 1996 Calsonic Skyline GT-R. The model features a detailed racing cockpit complete with a roll cage, chassis underside depictions of the racing suspension, and a sheet of aluminium tape to authentically replicate the car's exhaust heat shields.
