The M1A1 Abrams was introduced as the US Army's main battle tank in August 1984. It replaced the 105mm rifled gun of the original M1 Abrams with a 120mm smoothbore gun, greatly increasing its firepower. It also had a highly accurate fire control system and a gas turbine engine with an output of 1,500 horsepower. In the ground combat of the Gulf War in February 1991, it demonstrated its overwhelming superiority by destroying the T-72 tanks. The tank underwent various upgrades, and in January 2023, the US government decided to provide about 30 Abrams to support the Ukrainian army against the Russian invasion.
