The F-100 is a supersonic jet fighter equipped by the US Air Force, which flew for the first time in May 1953 with the first production model rolling off the line in October. The F-100F is a two-seater trainer type in the F-100 family, modified from the single-seater F-100D fuselage while retaining most weapons and equipment. The F-100F can perform low-risk missions, help other fighter-bombers indicate targets, perform SAR (search and rescue) missions, and was the first Wild Weasel model to suppress enemy air defence systems. By the end of the Vietnam War in 1971 the aircraft had performed more than 360,000 combat missions. The Pratt & Whitney J57-P-21/21A turbojet engine produces thrust of 4,626 kg and afterburner thrust of up to 7,257 kg.
