Description
The Italian Centauro is a 4-axle, all-wheel-drive armoured wheeled vehicle. With a good mechanical configuration, massive firepower and fine electronic hardware combined, it is one of the best wheeled armoured vehicles available. The Italian Army placed its first order of 400 vehicles in 1989, and in 1993 — just one year after first issue to troops — 20 were deployed on the UN peacekeeping mission in Somalia. Due to the Centauro's outstanding performance, the Spanish Army ordered 22 vehicles in 1999 and a further 52 in 2002. The Egyptian Army is the third operator of the Centauro.
