HMS Argonaut was a Dido-class light cruiser of the British Royal Navy and a vessel that forged an exceptional combat record across multiple theatres of the Second World War. These cruisers were renowned for their heavy dual-purpose armament, making them valuable assets for both anti-aircraft and surface engagements. Argonaut's service was a globe-spanning saga of naval warfare; she participated in the Operation Torch landings in North Africa before sailing to the United States for repairs and refitting. Returning to the fight, she provided crucial fire support for Allied troops landing on Gold Beach during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. She performed the same vital role during the Operation Dragoon landings in the South of France. Her journey continued through the Aegean Sea before she was transferred to the Eastern Fleet. In the Pacific, Argonaut joined the British Pacific Fleet, covering carrier strikes against Sumatra and supporting the vast amphibious operations during the Battle of Okinawa, fighting right through to the end of the war.
