Description
Work had begun in April 1939 to create the first jet fighter in history, the Messerschmitt Me 262. The new high-speed fighter plane used a turbine jet system and had its maiden flight on 18 July 1942. Powered by two Jumo 004B engines, the Me 262 had a maximum speed of 870 km/h at an altitude of 6,000 m, a range of 1,050 km, and a ceiling of 11,400 m.
The Me 262 A-1a/U5 was to carry an armament of six MK 108 cannons. Only one prototype (W.Nr.112355) was fitted with this installation under the designation.
