Since its 1992 release, the Kyosho Hang-On Racer has remained a popular and unique part of the RC world. This 1/8 scale kit models the legendary 1978 Yamaha YZR500, the machine "King Kenny" Roberts famously rode to his first 500cc championship. As the first YZR500 in the series, Kyosho conducted detailed research on an existing bike to carefully replicate its form. This kit isn't just for show; it's a running model that blends motorsport heritage with engaging RC performance. The level of detail is high, with a body cowl, brake discs, calipers, and sprockets all designed for a realistic display finish.

The Hang-On Racer's main feature is its unique S.D.S.S. (Semi-Direct Steering System), which allows the bike to achieve stable, full-lean cornering. This is paired with a 13-joint articulated rider figure that realistically "hangs on" by leaning its body into every turn, linked directly to the steering. This YZR500 version features a new scale-accurate upright front fork, matching the real machine and improving handling. The rear uses an asymmetrical swingarm with a monoshock, just like the real bike. A true-to-scale mini chain and sprocket system drives the rear wheel, powered by the included Le Mans DM20 motor. With a low part count, it's an approachable kit for new builders but detailed enough for veteran modelers.
