The Lancia Stratos is a true motorsport icon. With its futuristic wedge-shaped body designed by Bertone and a powerful mid-mounted Ferrari Dino V6 engine, it was a machine built for a single purpose: domination. It achieved this goal emphatically, winning three consecutive World Rally Championships from 1974 to 1976. This kit, however, represents the even more extreme evolution of the Stratos, created not for the rally stage, but for the wild world of Group 5 circuit racing. The Lancia Stratos Turbo was a "silhouette" race car, sharing the iconic shape of the original but featuring monstrous modifications. The engine was fitted with a huge turbocharger, boosting its output to a staggering 520 horsepower. To handle this immense power, the body was adorned with a deep chin spoiler, gigantic overfenders, and a massive rear wing to generate the downforce needed to keep it on the track.

This 1/24 scale Tamiya model is a re-issue of a classic kit first released in 1977, now updated with a new decal sheet, wheels, and instruction manual for a modern building experience. The kit perfectly captures the dramatic and powerful form of the Group 5 Stratos Turbo, from its sharp nose to its huge rear wing. The model features a realistic interior with an accurately recreated bucket seat and dashboard. A unique feature is the steerable front wheels, which allow for more dynamic display options once the model is complete. The highlight of this re-issue is the crisp, new decal sheet, which allows the modeller to recreate the famous red and green factory livery, complete with a full set of period-correct sponsor logos. A full-body driver figure is also included to add the final touch.
