The Audi Quattro, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1980, fundamentally transformed the perception of conventional 4WD vehicles, previously viewed as heavy, powerful off-road machines. While its body style largely resembled the Audi Coupe, it was distinguished by blister-type over fenders and prominent spoilers at the front and rear, powerfully asserting its high-performance capabilities. It radiated an unprecedented commanding presence for an Audi vehicle of that era. A key innovation was its full-time 4WD system, which featured a centre differential in addition to the front and rear differential gears. Powering the Audi Quattro was a 2144cc inline 5-cylinder engine, combined with an intercooler-equipped turbocharger, collectively generating 200 horsepower. The vehicle's suspension featured MacPherson struts at both the front and rear, while braking was managed by 4-wheel discs, with ventilated discs on the front wheels. The Audi Quattro also made an indelible mark in the World Rally Championship, securing numerous victories and significantly accelerating the widespread adoption of 4WD rally machines.
