Overview

At the beginning of WWII, the German army identified the need for a mobile infantry support vehicle to provide heavy firepower. The Sturmgeschütz III was designed to meet this requirement, and the Ausf.B was the first mass-produced variant. Armed with a short-barrelled 7.5cm gun, these low-slung assault guns were used extensively during the invasion of the Balkans and Operation Barbarossa.

This 1/35 scale kit from Tamiya is a highly detailed and accurate replica of the early StuG III Ausf.B. The model features a detailed fighting compartment interior, which can be viewed through the open hatches. Premium components are included, such as a turned aluminium gun barrel with rifling detail and photo-etched parts for the air intakes. A unique feature is the fully movable suspension, which allows the tracks to conform to uneven surfaces for realistic diorama possibilities.
