The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle was developed as a direct response to new Soviet fighters, born from the experiences of air combat over Vietnam. From its first flight in 1972, the Eagle was designed for air superiority, featuring powerful engines that allowed it to perform tight manoeuvres without sacrificing speed. While early versions focused on a pure fighter role, the F-15E Strike Eagle was developed as a dual-role aircraft. Entering service in 1988, the F-15E is not only a formidable air-to-air combat machine but also a potent assault aircraft with a wide range of capabilities for attacking ground targets.
