The Kyosho Mini-Z MR-04 Mazda Savanna RX-7 brings high-end RWD racing performance into a compact package that fits in the palm of your hand. This updated chassis represents a significant evolution from its predecessor, integrating a lower motor position and refined front suspension geometry to sharpen steering response. The MR-04 platform utilises a 130-class brushed motor that provides ample punch for indoor carpet tracks or smooth surfaces. Because the electronics and motor come pre-installed, you can focus on mastering the technical lines of your favourite circuit.
Engineering improvements focus on a reduced scrub radius and the inclusion of full ball bearings as standard equipment to minimise rotational resistance. This ensures every bit of power reaches the rear wheels while maintaining a linear feel through the transmitter. The included Syncro KT-531P radio system allows for fine-tuning of steering rates and throttle trims, providing a tailored driving feel. Compatibility with existing Mini-Z bodies and a massive catalogue of optional tuning parts means this vehicle grows alongside your driving skills. It serves as both a high-performance racer and a beautiful scale representation of the iconic rotary-powered Mazda.
Set up your own indoor race course and test your reflexes against the clock. This chassis provides the technical depth experts crave while remaining accessible enough for those just starting their radio control journey. Install your batteries and prepare for tight-room racing action!
Celebrate Mazda’s legendary 1-2 debut finish with this authentic No.77 Savanna RX-7. While the No.7 car took the win, this No.77 finished second to secure a historic result in the GTU class. The sharp body lines are accented by bold red stripes, providing a striking contrast to its sister car and delivering a premium scale appearance for rotary racing fans.
Retaining the best aspects of the previous generation, the MR-04 delivers significant performance gains through a lower centre of gravity. This redesign makes the car easier to control, providing a more stable platform for both competitive racers and beginners. The improved balance ensures smoother weight transfer and more predictable handling during technical indoor racing sessions on various surfaces.
The included Syncro KT-531P transmitter features a realistic steering wheel design and a pistol-grip throttle for precise control. You can easily adjust the neutral positions, steering angle, and dual rates using the integrated digital trims. For those learning the ropes, the default training mode reduces the vehicle speed, allowing new drivers to build their skills safely and gradually.
New front hubs with integrated kingpins reduce scrub by 1.5mm on each side compared to the MR-03. This engineering update results in sharper, more linear steering control. The transition to 3mm (0.12") inner diameter ball bearings also reduces rotational resistance, providing the front-end precision required to navigate tight hairpins and technical corners with total authority.
Powered by four AAA batteries, the MR-04 mounts its power source lower than the MR-03 to drop the centre of gravity further. Whether using alkaline or NiMH cells, the weight is positioned to maximise traction and minimise chassis roll. This design choice delivers improved cornering stability and straight-line handling, making the RX-7 feel planted even during aggressive high-speed manoeuvres.
The front suspension is designed to dynamically align the camber angle with the movement of the upper arm. This ensures the tyres maintain optimal contact patches with the track surface during heavy cornering. Combined with the new MZ719 suspension compatible with zero-offset wheels, this system provides the mechanical grip needed to handle the torque of the rear-wheel-drive motor.
The rear suspension uses a flexible T-bar plate to hold the motor pod and rear axle, providing a natural suspension effect that improves grip. This is paired with a coil spring Shock to cushion shocks from the road surface. This setup ensures the rear remains settled over bumps and can be further tuned with optional oil-filled shocks or different carbon fibre plates.
Every axle is equipped with low rotational resistance ball bearings as standard. By using the same size bearings for both the front and rear, Kyosho has improved spare parts efficiency while ensuring a smooth, friction-free drivetrain. These high-quality bearings allow the RWD system to spin freely, maximising the efficiency of your AAA batteries and motor for longer race times.
This kit includes a parts set that allows you to change the front tread width to match different body styles. While set up for the RX-7 SA22C, this adjustment ensures the chassis can be adapted if you choose to install a non-standard body later. Rear tread can also be tuned by changing the wheel offset, providing a customisable fit for your entire Mini-Z collection.
