This kit comes without an ESC, Motor, Servo, Battery, Charger, or Transmitter and will come with an unpainted body that may require cutting, painting and drilling.
The Optima Mid is remembered for its brilliant debut at the 2nd World Electric Off-Road Car Championships in England, 1987, where the prototype occupied 5 out of the 10 qualifiers in the A-Main final and finished in second place. The Optima Mid's chassis layout with mid-motor position and undercarriage grew in popularity and became the foundation for modern racing buggies. It is the 10th model in the Kyosho vintage series.
The main chassis is made from 6061-T6 aluminium alloy for high rigidity, with countersunk hex screws for a flat underside. Each component has been updated to match a modern power system, including a 48-pitch gear for improved efficiency and precision gear ratio setting. The recreated Optima Mid also features an adjustable belt tensioner for smooth drive with minimal loss, plus FRP front and rear shock stays and a moulded resin belt cover sourced from Turbo Optima Mid specifications.
The aluminium oil shocks retain the classic look while featuring an updated dial adjustment for precise chassis height control and refined damping performance.
The basic design follows the 1987 Optima Mid. As the name suggests, the layout allows for the mid-ship motor mount. Driving performance is optimised by centrally locating heavy components on the chassis.
The 6061-T6 aluminium alloy main chassis achieves an excellent balance between rigidity and crash resistance. Incorporating hex screws with countersunk holes for a flat underside of the chassis.
The front and rear shock stays have been updated from the original aluminium to FRP, similar to the Turbo Optima Mid-specs.
Stabiliser end mounting holes have been added to the front suspension arms. The quality of the material has been optimised for increased strength and driving stability.
The belt cover has been updated from the previous vacuum-formed part to a moulded resin part that effectively protects the drive belt from dirt and dust. The new belt cover is easier to assemble and provides more complete protection from dust.
The Optima Mid's drivetrain features a 48-pitch spur gear and a slipper clutch for enhanced performance and durability. The slipper clutch protects the gears from shock loads, ensuring smooth operation and extending the life of the drivetrain.

The Optima Mid features a 6061-T6 aluminium alloy main chassis with a mid-ship motor mount and belt-type 4WD system.
The belt-type 4WD system delivers excellent drive efficiency and stability, even on roads with low grip.
The 6061-T6 aluminium alloy main chassis achieves an excellent balance between rigidity and crash resistance, with countersunk holes for a flat underside.
Front and rear shock stays have been updated from the original aluminium to FRP, similar to Turbo Optima Mid specs, with gold anodised oil-filled shocks.
Belt tension can be adjusted through the newly equipped belt tensioner, which also improves driving efficiency and reduces power loss.
48-pitch spur gear is equipped with a slipper clutch that protects the gear from shocks while driving.
Stabiliser end mounting holes have been added to the front suspension arms with optimised material for increased strength and driving stability.
New wheels recreate the original Optima Mid design and include the same tyres as the Turbo Optima for exceptional grip.
Includes decals that recreate the design used on the original packaging; a masking sheet is also included so the body can be finished with a simple single-colour coat.
