manufacturing 1/25 scale plastic automobile dealer promotional model cars and friction motor models, and pioneered the annual 3-in-1 model kit buildable in stock, custom, or hot-rod versions. The company made a two-way deal in 1966 with Desilu Productions to produce a line of Star Trek models and to produce a 3/4 scale exterior and interior filming set of the Galileo shuttlecraft. FAQs for AMT

AMT is one of the great American plastic model brands, established in 1948, and is aimed at modellers with a love of classic American cars and trucks, plus a strong line in sci-fi subjects from popular film and TV franchises. They suit hobbyists who enjoy building period-correct hot rods, muscle cars, custom trucks or instantly recognisable starships and movie vehicles for their display shelves. AMT kits typically require standard plastic-modelling skills — assembly, gluing, painting and decal application — so they are not aimed at very young first-time builders.

AMT has been part of American plastic modelling since 1948 and is most strongly associated with classic American car and truck kits — hot rods, muscle cars, customs and pickups — alongside a famous range of sci-fi subjects. The catalogue is deeply nostalgic for many modellers, with subjects that have been in production (and reissued) across multiple decades. For collectors and builders, AMT kits represent a chance to recreate a piece of American automotive or pop-culture history in scale form on the workbench.

Our AMT presence is currently very limited — just one item in our Australian warehouse — so availability is best described as near-zero. If you specifically want an AMT kit, please contact our team before ordering so we can confirm exactly what is on the shelf and whether it suits your interests. For Australian modellers wanting a broader American or international plastic-kit selection, our Academy and Das Werk ranges offer a much wider current choice across cars, aircraft and military subjects.

With only one AMT item in stock, the most accurate reference is the live AMT category page on our site rather than any fixed product list — availability on a single-SKU brand can change quickly. If the AMT kit you have in mind is not listed and you would like us to look into sourcing it for the Australian market, send our team the kit number along with details of any preferred reissue or scale, and we will let you know what is realistic given current international availability.
