Developed by Aeronautica Macchi, the Macchi M.C. 200 Series XXI was a single-engine fighter aircraft that played a key
role in World War II for the Italian Air Force. Its sleek, low-wing monoplane design minimised drag, while the powerful
Daimler-Benz DB 601A engine propelled it to impressive speeds. Exceptional agility allowed it to outmanoeuvre
many opponents, while its armament of two 12.7mm Breda-SAFAT machine guns and two 20mm MG 151/20 cannons packed a
serious punch. The M.C. 200 Series XXI saw action in the Battle of Britain, North African Campaign, and Mediterranean
theatre, with approximately 1,150 units produced. Though retired in late 1943, its advanced design, potent firepower,
and excellent manoeuvrability cemented its legacy as one of the most successful Italian fighter aircraft of the war.
Today, it remains a popular subject of historical study and aviation enthusiasts, holding a place of honour in museums
and airshows worldwide.
