This part is made stainless steel to protect the front and rear gear box from sand and rocks as well as the impact when driving. Stainless steel is also corrosion resistance...great protection when exposed to the combination of air and moisture.
Thoughtful design with positioning holes for the screws of upper part of the main shaft so you won't need to remove the gear box protector to install the main shaft.
