Trumpeter 1/200 German Scharnhorst Battleship Scaled Plastic Model Kit
Battlecruiser Scharnhorst is a Scharnhorst class ship. The initial design could be utilised as a 380 mm main gun battleship, intended to meet future military excursions. However, in 1938 it was found to have an insufficient bow freeboard in trials, resulting in a 1939 refit. In 1940, during the outbreak of World War II, the Scharnhorst sank two ships of the Royal Navy aircraft carrier Glorious and two destroyers, but was hit by the destroyers torpedos and required drydocking. In 1941, the Scharnhorst began seek and destroy operations in the Atlanta Ocean. The Scharnhorst sunk 22 merchant fleet vessels at a total tonnage of 11,5000 tons and disrupted allied sea operations.
On the 25th of December, 1943 the Scharnhorst was intercepted by the Royal Navy battleship Duke Of York and was eventually sunk.
